The Zimmermann 5-axis portal milling machine FZU32 is a technological masterpiece, characterized by its modular and flexible configuration. The FZU line includes five different weight classes, which can be customized to meet the specific requirements of clients.
The working area of the FZU32 is modularly expandable, thereby offering users a high degree of flexibility. Moreover, the newly designed U-shape structure of the table and side frames, in combination with the thermo-symmetrically clamped portal kinematics, ensures both high rigidity and exceptional precision during milling processes. Additionally, a special feature is the dynamically fine-tuned VH10 milling head, which not only enables a swivel speed of 180° per second but also enhances overall performance.
A look inside the machine
Construction of the machine is done in Neuhausen using a steel-welded design. All components undergo FEM analysis, and the U-shaped table system profile has been optimized to enhance plane parallelism and accuracy. The base module is two meters long and can be extended to up to six meters based on client requirements. The table modules are assembled by clamping the joints, which simplifies alignment and installation.
The portal unit is based on a box-in-box design, where the machining unit operates on a sturdy crossbeam. The use of linear roller guides and rack-and-pinion drives in the X and Y directions ensures precise and dynamic motion. The symmetrical construction of the portal unit minimizes thermal displacement, eliminating the need for extensive cooling measures inside the body of the machine.
Features
For machining challenging materials such as CFRP workpieces, the FZU32 is equipped with intensive flood coolant systems, which efficiently remove carbon shavings and contribute to a smoother machining process. Additionally, a vapor extraction system ensures a clean working environment by effectively removing harmful particles. Furthermore, the machine offers easy access to the work area through large sliding doors, which not only facilitate manual operation but also enable automated loading. Moreover, an integrated BLUM measuring unit ensures precise tool cutting assessments, while tool supply is efficiently managed by two chain changers, each providing 36 tool slots. Finally, the machine is controlled using either the latest HEIDENHAIN TNC7 or Siemens SINUMERIK ONE systems, ensuring optimal performance and user-friendly operation.
